Eglinton’s Transit Plan has been ratified by City Council.

As outlined in an article by the National Post:

By a margin of 25 to 18, council rejected the Mayor’s tunnel-only edict and backed parts of a plan, once known as Transit City, to construct a light rail line on Finch Avenue and one along Eglinton Avenue that is both underground and at street level and to revamp the Scarborough RT. Councillors put off making a decision on Sheppard Avenue, leaving the door open to the subway that Mayor Ford so fervently wants to build.

While this is a major step forward for the City, some stations along the Eglinton-Scarborough line are still waiting to be confirmed and funded as promised. With the Council-estimated $2 billion savings expected Oakwood is one station that needs to be granted full funding before other lines are begun.

Congratulations to Councillor Stintz and her 24 colleagues (including Josh Colle, Josh Matlow and Glenn De Baeremaeker) who supported a new plan for Eglinton and Toronto.

During this interview Councillor Colle sited the Crosstown LRT as one of his big issues:

“The issue I want something tangible done on is transit on Eglinton, which is at the south end of my ward. It’s one of those projects people in my area feel once-bitten, twice-shy on because we lost it before. I think much of my term will be spent trying to push that ahead, making sure we get the stations we were promised.”

We couldn’t agree more Councillor!
